The Eastern Washington University athletics department is the only Big Sky Conference school to rank in the top two in both graduation rate and graduation success rate (GSR), as released by the NCAA this week.
EWU’s GSR score of 75 percent is tied for the second-highest in the conference, while the athletic department’s graduation rate of 64 percent is second, as well.
This comes on the heels of Eastern Washington earning the highest grade point average in the Big Sky for the 2007-08 school year, 3.2.
“These academic accomplishments would not be possible without the dedication of the student-athletes to succeed in the classroom,” academic coordinator Mike Miller said.
The GSR was developed by the NCAA to more accurately reflect the mobility among college students today. It not only allows institutions to include students transferring into their institutions, but also to subtract those leaving, as long as they would have been academically eligible if they had remained.
