Ron Raver Memorial Golf Classic on Wednesday, August 5

Presented by Harvest Foods, the 22nd annual scholarship fundraiser takes place at Indian Canyon and The Creek at Qualchan golf courses in Spokane

The 22nd Annual Ron Raver Memorial Golf Classic presented by Harvest Foods will take place Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Indian Canyon and The Creek at Qualchan golf courses in Spokane.

The scramble format tournament will again feature more than $4,000 in prizes, and begins at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Special "team handicapping" will again be used. Each team will be assigned a handicap and will begin the tournament under par.

Cost to enter the tournament is $125, or $500 for a team of four, with net proceeds going toward athletic scholarships at Eastern Washington University. The cost includes lunch (at 11:30 a.m.), dinner, beverages, range balls, green fees, cart and EWU football game tickets.

For details and an entry form, go to http://WWW.GOEAGS.COM or call 509-359-2463 or 1-800-648-7697.

Tee and green sponsorships, which include signage, an entry for a team of four, and EWU football and basketball season tickets, are available for $800 each. Major sponsorships cost $2,000.

Previously, the event took place at MeadowWood and Liberty Lake golf courses, but on-going renovations to Liberty Lake necessitated a temporary change. Indian Canyon will be the site of this year's post-tournament dinner and awards ceremony.

The event is named after Ron Raver, who was Eastern's Athletic Director for 11 years, and was a force in the school's rise from the NAIA to NCAA Division I.  He was a former tennis coach, assistant basketball coach, and assistant and head baseball coach at EWU. Raver officially retired in 2000 but continued to assist the department with special events and fund-raising. In Fall 2001, he was inducted into the Eastern Athletics Hall of Fame, which he helped create five years earlier.  Ron passed away on March 1, 2002, at the age of 62 after a battle with cancer.
