Installation will start immediately as a truck carrying a partial shipment of Eastern Washington University’s new red Sprinturf arrived Tuesday (Aug. 3) at Woodward Field in Cheney, Wash. Final prep work continues Tuesday afternoon, and the first turf will be rolled out on the field probably Wednesday (Aug. 4) morning.

A 24-hour web cam is available at www.goeags.com for viewing of the project, which began on June 14 with the start of excavation work at Woodward Field in Cheney, Wash. When the project is completed, the field will be re-named Roos Field in appreciation of the $500,000 pledge made by Michael and Katherine Roos toward the project.

The projected completion date is still listed as Sept. 3, with the inaugural game on the red turf taking place Sept. 18 versus Montana, scheduled to start at 4:05 p.m. Pacific time.

Sprinturf Inc., based in Wayne, Pa., received the contract to install the red turf, which is the first of its kind, not just in NCAA Division I football, but in the entire country. The excavation and prep work is being performed by Pauletto Trucking and Excavation in Spokane, which was also a sub-contractor for the Sprinturf field that was installed in 2005 at Gonzaga Prep High School in Spokane.

Other contractors involved in the project include Coffman Engineers and Geo Engineers, both based in Spokane, with financing of the project provided by U.S. Bank and approved by the EWU Foundation and EWU Board of Trustees.
