40 Selected to Winter All-Academic Team
To qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 GPA and participate in at least half of the team's competitions
A total of 40 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for winter quarter 2011. Of the total, 14 were from the men's track and field team, 14 came from the women's squad, seven were from women's basketball and five men's basketball players were honored.
To qualify for the team, student-athletes need a 3.20 accumulative grade point average or better at EWU and met the requirement of playing in at least half of the team's competitions.
Now with fall and winter quarter complete, a total of 90 EWU student-athletes have earned the honor thus far in the 2010-11 school year. A total of 50 were honored for fall quarter 2010. Of the total, 18 were from football, 11 from volleyball, 10 from women's soccer, eight from women's cross country and three from men's cross country.
In the 2009-10 school year, exactly 150 All-Academic honors were won by EWU student-athletes. In the fall, 20 were from football, 11 from volleyball, nine from women's soccer, seven from women's cross country and five from men's cross country. Selections in the winter included 16 from the women's track and field team, 16 from the men's squad, seven from women's basketball and five from men's basketball. In the spring, 20 honored student-athletes were from the men's track and field team, 18 came from the women's squad, seven from men's tennis, five from women's golf and four from women's tennis.
A total of 136 Big Sky All-Academic honors were won in the 2008-09 school year, and 122 in 2007-08.
The Eagles are the reigning champions of the Sterling Savings Bank Big Sky Conference Presidents’ Cup, which is unique in collegiate athletics in that it reinforces the league’s dedication to the academic side of the student-athlete experience. The winner of this award is determined by overall athletic success combined with team grade point averages, graduation rates, and All-Conference performers with grade point averages of at least 3.0.
