Pair of Track and Field Seniors Tabbed as Scholar-Athletes of the Month
Shene Davis and Bowe Ebding find success inside and outside the classroom
Seniors Bowe Ebding and Shene Davis from the Eastern Washington University track and field team have been selected as EWU’s May Scholar-Athletes of the Month.
This award, presented by the EWU Athletic Department, recognizes the athletic and academic success of student-athletes, based primarily on performances turned in during the month prior.
Ebding, a native a Walla Walla, Wash., currently holds a 3.62 grade point average majoring in Spanish with a minor in math. Davis, a 2007 graduate of Selah High School, has maintained a 3.7 GPA while focusing on exercise science. Davis also has a double minor in math and Spanish.
Both athletes are set to compete in the 2012 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships held in Bozeman, Mont., May 11-12. Ebding and Davis have each qualified in two different events.

Ebding has qualified for the Big Sky Championships in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. His season-best time in the 5,000 is sitting at 14:41.55, a mark he set on April 6 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. His personal record in the run is 14:38.41, good for eighth in school history.
In the 10,000, Ebding is ranked third in the Big Sky Conference. His time of 30:48.76 at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 19 is his career best.
Ebding has already etched his name into Eastern’s record books, as the distance runner’s time of 14:40.28 in the indoor 5,000 ranks fifth all-time.
Last season, at the 2011 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships, Ebding finished fifth in the 10,000 with a mark of 30:56.84.

Davis qualified for the 2012 Big Sky Outdoor Championships in both the triple jump and long jump at the Long Beach Invitational on April 20.
She moved to third in EWU history in the long jump with a mark of 19-6 1/4, which also currently leads the Big Sky Conference. The same mark ranks 33rd in the West Region.
Her mark of 38-9 1/2 in the triple jump puts her fourth in school history. As of now, she is ranked fourth in the Big Sky heading into the conference championships.
During indoor season, Davis placed in both jumping events; fifth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump. Also, at the 2010 Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships, Davis used a personal-best jump of 19-9 1/2 to earn all-conference honors. That same jump moved her to the top of EWU’s record book.
