Student-athletes from the Eastern Washington University football team will partake in Special Olympics Washington’s annual Polar Plunge in late February, beginning with a telethon effort on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Eight student-athletes from Eastern’s football program will man telephones at KHQ Television in Spokane from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. the morning of Saturday, Feb. 8. They will take calls live on television from viewers and collect credit card contributions towards Special Olympics Washington.
For every $50 earned, one student-athlete will be rewarded with a plunge into the frigid waters of Liberty Lake on Saturday, Feb. 22.
EWU Athletics and its student-athletes have participated in the Polar Plunge annually since 2012, raising more than $600 dollars that year before raising nearly $700 in 2013. The Eagles were recognized with an award as the event’s top fundraising school last year.
