Regular Season Comes To An End For @EWUSoccer In 3-2 Overtime Loss To Montana

Williams and Chavez score, as the Eagles wrap-up Senior Day with a 3-2 loss

CHENEY, Wash. – It took one extra period to determine the victor in the final game of the 2016 regular season, as the Eastern Washington University women's soccer team fell in a heartbreaker to the visiting Montana Grizzlies, 3-2, on Friday, Oct. 28.

In typical fashion for this Eastern squad, it only took 11 minutes to put its first points on the board. Off a corner from sophomore Allison Raniere, Jenny Chavez headed in a shot above the Montana goalkeeper, giving EWU the 1-0 lead. With an aggressive approach on offense, the Eagles extended their lead soon after. In the 25th minute Aimie Inthoulay dished the ball over to Chloe Williams on a free kick, as Williams rocketed in the goal from outside the 18-yard box.

The Grizzlies pulled some momentum in their favor before the end of the second half, and began its eventual comeback with a goal from Ellie Otteson in the 39th minute. Later in the 61st minute, Ashlee Pederson hit the equalizer for UM. The match would be sent into overtime tied 2-2, but in just the 93rd minute Aspen Peifer would head in the game winning goal, giving Montana a 3-2 win.

Bodnar Bites
"We just got to be tougher as a group. We start games well, and started today's game incredibly well, but we dropped off and gave up three unanswered goals. If we are going to do anything in this tournament, or anything down the road, we need to get tougher and not have lulls in how we play."

What's Next
The Eagles will rally together for the upcoming Big Sky Championship starting on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The seeding and hosting location is still being determined at this time.
