The Eastern Washington University track and field teams stayed close to home for their outdoor debut of the season at the Whitworth BUC Scoring Invite on Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18, in Spokane, Wash.

The Eagles had seven Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships qualifiers at the meet, including
Kaytlyn Coleman,
Joey Payne,
Joey Day,
Kendra Hamm,
Jeremy VanAssche,
Dominique Butler, and
Aaron Cunningham.
Â
Coleman qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the hammer throw with a toss of 189-7, winning the event.
Â
Payne placed third in the men's javelin with a throw of 193-03, qualifying for the conference championships. Day also qualified for the conference championships in the event, finishing fourth with a distance of 190-03.

Hamm placed first in the women's heptathlon (4,545 points), qualifying for the conference championships. Her best events for the heptathlon were the 100-meter hurdles (first place, 16.05), javelin (109-6), and long jump (first, 17-6 3/4).

VanAssche placed first in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.54, qualifying for the conference championships.
Â
Butler placed first in the women's triple jump with a distance of 38-0 3/4 and qualified for the conference championships in the event.

Cunningham placed first in the men's shot put with a distance of 53-2 3/4, qualifying for the event.

The EWU track teams will take the next two weeks off to prepare for competition at the Al Manuel Invitational in Missoula, Mont., on April 1. Regional qualifiers will travel to Palo Alto, Cali., to compete at the Stanford Invite on April 1.

Top Women's Performances . . .Â
Rebecca Tarbert placed first in the 100 meters with a time of 12.08, just missing the qualifying standard by eight hundredths of a second. Monson placed second in the event with a time of 12.81.

Paris Flenoy placed first in the shot put with a throw of 45-3, just .01 meters away from qualifying for the conference championships. Morgan Romney placed second in the event with a throw of 44-0.

Anandae Clark and
Erin Clark tied for first in the pole vault with a height of 11-11 3/4, just .05 meters away from qualifying for the conference championships.
Elizabeth Prouty,
Loryn Musgrove, and
Macey Weitz all had heights of 11-5 3/4, finishing in a three-way tie for third.

Eastern went 1-2-3 in the hammer throw, with Coleman placing first (189-7),
Kelsie Forcier second (174-5), and Samantha Lester third (161-0).

Lester and Forcier also placed second and third, respectively, in the women's discus. Lester had a throw of 144-10 and Forcier had a throw of 142-11.

Eastern went 1-2-3 in the high jump as well, with
Tierra White finishing first (5-4 1/4),
Kaitlyn Grunst second (5-0 1/4), and
Brooklyn Bellomy third (4-10 1/4).

Megan Murphy placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 35-1.

Dominique Butler placed third in the long jump with a distance of 17-2 1/4.

The women's 4x100 relay team of

Rebecca Tarbert placed first with a time of 47.15.

Leanne Asper placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.15.
Paige Hammock placed third with a time of 1:04.95.

Asper also placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.76.
Loryn Musgrove placed third with a time of 16.19.

Paule Gil-Echevarria and
Mayra Chavez placed second and third in the 1,500 meters, respectively. Gil-Echevarria had a time of 4:41.94 and Chavez had a time of 4:42.24.

Janessa Day placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.06. Lombardo placed second in the event with a time of 1:00.09.

Brooke Monson placed first in the 200 meters with a time of 25.85, while Lombardo placed second with a time of 26.30.
