Katie Mahoney and
Kaytlyn Coleman were awarded Big Sky Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 4.
At the Stanford Invitational (April 1), Mahoney reclaimed the EWU steeplechase record, clocking in a time of 10:10.33 and placing first in her section of the race. The previous record of 10:14.99 was set by current teammate
Catie Arrigoni in 2014 at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds.
With her performance, Mahoney moved up to eighth in Big Sky history and ranks sixth in the West Region and 10
th nationally. Mahoney also holds records in the 1,500 meters (4:24.05 set in 2014) for outdoor track and field, and the mile (4:48.84 set in 2016) for indoor track and field at Eastern. Mahoney is a two-time all-conference performer in the steeplechase and has claimed her second career athlete of the week award.
Honored as Athlete of the Week for the fifth time during the 2016 season, Coleman threw a personal best toss of 194-6 in the hammer throw at the Stanford Invitational (April 1). She placed fourth overall at the meet and is currently the top athlete in the event in the Big Sky Conference.
An improvement by nearly five feet, she ranks third all-time in school history right behind
Olivia Midles (195-10 in 2014) and Nicole Luckenbach (199-8 in 2010).Her mark ranks her 13
th in the West Region and 27
th nationally. Coleman has been awarded three athlete of the week honors during her indoor season, and two during her outdoor season.
Mahoney, Coleman, and the rest of the EWU track team will host Big Sky Conference competitor Montana at the 44
th Annual Pelleur Invitational this Friday (April 8) at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.
