The Eastern Washington University indoor track and field team completed the Boise State Bronco Invitational with four titles on Saturday (Jan. 21).
"We had some great performances today, highlighted by the men's and women's pole vault won by
Larry Still and
Anandae Clark," said women's head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "They are getting consistent and more comfortable jumping at higher heights during competitions. Our vaulters play a big role in our team success so it is important that they keep challenging themselves."
Men's Top Performers
Defending Big Sky Champion, sophomore
Larry Still, took home the pole vaulting prize for the second time this year. He beat out the competition with a season best vault of 16-2 3/4. Junior
Aaron Cunningham earned his second shot put title of the season with a throw of 52-1 1/4. On the season, Cunningham has won three titles and finished at least second in every event.
Eastern's distance running had a successful meet with a total of six top-three performances, including a first place finish for senior
Isaac Kitzan in the mile. His time of 4:19.45 was just above the second place time of 4:22.14 set by senior
Logan Stahl. Stahl and Kitzan both beat their previous personal bests.
Women's Top Performers
Senior
Anandae Clark won the women's only title of the invite with a pole vault mark of 12-11 1/2. Clark is ranked fourth on the EWU all-time indoor list with a mark of 13-0 3/4.
The women's distance team did their damage in the 3,000 metera as freshman
Kaili Keefe finished second in her first 3,000 run of her collegiate career with a time of 10:21.23. Fellow freshman
Carli Corpus was right behind her in third with a time of 10:23.79. In the mile, senior
Paula Gil-Echevarria was the top finisher for the Eagles, placing second with a time of 5:03.64.
Comments from Women's Head Coach Marcia Mecklenburg
"For the second week in a row, Aaron Cunnigham and
Scottie Miller finished first and second in the shot put. I am loving their consistency. It was good to see that happen against the Sacramento State throwers too."
"
Jose Garcia led the sprinters with a fourth place finish in the 60, running a personal record of 6.98 against a tough field of competitors. I can't help but feel excited for
Kendra Hamm. She had a great 200 race running an indoor PR of 25.91. That will really help her going into her next pentathlon competition in a week."
What's Next
