Eagles Sign Left-Handed Arizona Tennis Champion

Head Coach Dustin Hinson welcomes Maddie Lamoreaux to the Eagles' squad

CHENEY, Wash. --  Eastern Washington University women's tennis head coach Dustin Hinson announced the new addition to the Eagles 2018-2019 roster, Maddie Lamoreaux on Wednesday (Nov. 15). The left-handed four-star recruit signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Eagles starting in the fall of 2018.

"I am very happy to welcome Maddie into the Eagle women's tennis family. I was fortunate enough to meet her this summer and see her compete in person at the Junior National Tournament. I was immediately drawn to her cheerful disposition and great on-court energy and grit," said Hinson. "When Maddie came to Eastern for a visit, she fit right in with the team and made immediate connections. That speaks volumes because it really adds to the team cohesion piece of college athletics that is so important."

The Arizona standout played for Mountain View High School in Mesa, Ariz. In her freshman and sophomore season, Lamoreaux partnered with her sister in doubles to win the state championship both years. She went undefeated in singles until her junior season where she lost only one match. She is going into her senior season undefeated in doubles.

Lamoreaux has competed in numerous national competitions as well. In 2017 she participated in the Fed Cup representing the southwest region and did not lose a match. She also competed in Hard Courts and Winter Nationals. Most recently, Lamoreaux placed second in doubles overall at the No Quit Tournament in Las Vegas and first place in doubles at the Phoenix Junior Master Tournament in Chandler, Ariz.

"Maddie has shown that she works hard in the classroom as well, which will help us maintain our strong pursuit of academic excellence within our athletic department. We are truly fortunate to get Maddie here at Eastern. I'm confident she will make an immediate impact in our doubles and singles lineups next season and I'm very excited to get the opportunity to work with her," said Hinson.

The Eagles squad has two graduating seniors this spring – Janaya Smith and Rachel Swindell. All others will be returning. For more information on Eastern Washington's women's tennis team, follow @EWUAthletics on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
