Day One of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championship is in the books for the Eastern Washington University indoor track and field team, as senior
Kendra Hamm finished the pentathlon in 13
th place on Thursday (Feb. 23).
Today's competition in Pocatello, Idaho, was dedicated to the multi-events with the women's pentathlon concluding, and the men's heptathlon finishing four of seven events.
Women's Results
Kendra Hamm was Eastern's participant in the pentathlon, as she scored 3,201 points in the five events. Hamm finished ahead of athletes from Sacramento State, Idaho, and Montana. Montana's Erika McLeod was the Big Sky's pentathlon champion, scoring 3,955 points.
Hamm finished inside the top-10 in the 800-meter dash, high jump, and long jump. In the 800, she finished ninth with a time of 2:32.52, and in the long jump she placed eighth with a mark of 17-7 1/2.
"I think Kendra had hoped to do a little better," said women's head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "But she stayed tough finishing the day with a great long jump, and a gutsy 800."
Men's Results
Over halfway done with the men's heptathlon, sophomore
Aaron Pullin is currently in 14
th place out of 20 athletes. Pullin has 2,540 points through the 60-meter dash, high jump, long jump, and shot put. In the shot put, he finished eighth with a throw of 37-2 1/4. Currently leading the heptathlon is Montana State's Mason Storm with 3,015 points.
''Aaron had a decent day one and is looking forward to the second day," said men's head coach
Stan Kerr. "With the hurdles and the pole vaultin day two, he has a great opportunity to work his way into scoring position."
Day two of the Big Sky Championship will conclude the men's heptathlon at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday (Feb. 24), and begin track preliminaries and individual field event at 1:30 p.m. A
