The Eastern Washington University outdoor track and field team completed the final day of the 2017 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday (May 13), ultimately coming away with two all-conference athletes and one champion.
After four days of competition in Sacramento, the Eastern Washington women's team finished eighth with 44 points. The men's team was 12
th with 14 points.
"This meet had the test first - lesson later feel to it," said men's head coach
Stan Kerr. "There is no substitution for going through an entire Big Sky Conference Championship to develop a broader sense of what is truly required to score in this meet."
Erin Clark and
Samantha Baker were EWU's All-Big Sky competitors (top-three finish), both earning their honors during Friday's events. Eastern's champion was women's pole vaulter
Erin Clark, also on Friday.

Comments from Men's Head Coach Stan Kerr
"Our men's team graduates one person,
Austin Oser, which bodes well for us. We will bring back a ton of experience for next year's indoor and outdoor championships."
Comments from Women's Head Coach Marcia Mecklenburg
"Performances of the day belong to
Dominique Butler in the triple and
Rebecca Tarbert in the 100. Those two kept the points coming."
"Both relays added some points to our mix, and I was pleased with the season-best 4x400 run by
Paige Hammock,
Sophie Bowles,
Emily Mills, and
Janessa Day. They came through in the final event of the meet and scored for us from the slow heat. That point moved us up one spot. Every point counts. Overall I was pleased with those who competed."
