A total of 52 student-athletes will be competing for Eastern Washington

Full Schedule | Live Results | Stream

The Eastern Washington University indoor track and field team begins the Big Sky Indoor Championships presented by Red Lion Hotels Corporation this Thursday (Feb. 22) in Flagstaff, Ariz. The roster is compiled of 26 student-athletes from both the men and women's sides.

Hosted by Northern Arizona University, the championship is a three-day event that ends on Saturday (Feb. 25).

Thursday's competition starts at 11 a.m. Pacific Time with four events in the heptathlon. The pentathlon is set to begin at 11:15 a.m. and will finish later in the day.

On Friday, the heptathlon will wrap up beginning at 9:30 a.m. The field events start at 2 p.m. with running events starting at 3 p.m. and the last event at 6:35 p.m. On Saturday, field events start at 9 a.m. and running events begin at 11 a.m.

At last year's indoor conference championship, Eastern Washington placed eighth out of the 12 schools on both the women and men's sides. Returning to defend his long jump title is sophomore Keshun McGee, who won last year's event with a mark of 25-0. Five other indoor champions also return for EWU including Trenton Osborn (2015: long jump), Jeremy VanAssche (2016: 60 meters), Rebecca Tarbert (2016: 60 meters) and Tierra White (2015: high jump).

"We are looking forward to the Indoor Conference Championships at NAU," women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg said. "It is one of the most exciting meets of the year given that all the events areas compete in a fairly confined space. It gets loud and it gets crazy. That's what makes indoor track and field so much fun. You never know what will happen at Big Sky's. If you make the travel squad you have an opportunity to do something big and that is what I am expecting for our athletes."

"The athletes who will be competing in this week's indoor championships are in distinguished company," men's head coach Stan Kerr said. "The best athletes the conference has to offer will be going head-to-head to determine individual and team champions."

There will be a live stream of the event on Pluto TV and live results can be found here.

On the men's side . . .
The men's squad includes sophomore Keshun McGee who is the returning Big Sky Indoor Champion in the long jump and runner-up in the triple jump. This season, he leads the conference in the triple jump with a personal-best record of 51-9 3/4. This mark has him at second in EWU history and 19th in the nation. He also ranks third in the long jump with a 23-11 1/2 mark. The Bremerton, Wash., native is set to compete on Friday at 2 p.m. in the long jump and at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the triple jump. Trenton Osborn, who won the title in 2015, is another competitor in the long jump for Eastern.

Another Big Sky leader on the roster is junior Larry Still in the pole vault. He currently has the best mark in the conference with a vault of 16-8 3/4, which ranks 56th in the nation. Due to an injury last year, he wasn't able to compete in the championships. During his freshman year, he was crowned the pole vault champion with a 17-0 3/4 mark. The junior is set to compete on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Senior Jeremy VanAssche is another Big Sky Champion returning for the Eagles in the 60 meters. VanAssche, who won the title in 2016, is ranked seventh in the Big Sky with a time of 6.88. Prelims for the event are at 4:20 p.m. on Friday with finals taking place on Saturday at 12:20 p.m.

On the women's side . . .
The women has 10 seniors competing, including Tierra White who earned second in the high jump last year at the championships and won the title in 2015. She is currently ranked 13th in the Big Sky with a season-best mark of 5-5.  The senior is going to compete on Friday at 2 p.m. in the event.

Another returner for the Eagles is Big Sky Leader senior Rebecca Tarbert in the 60 meters, who earned third overall last year in the event and won the title in 2016. She leads the conference with a time of 7.57 and owns EWU's all-time record of 7.47. The prelims for the event will be on Friday at 4:05 p.m. with finals taking place on Saturday at 12:10 p.m. The East Wenatchee, Wash., native will also compete in the 200 meters and on the 4x4 relay team.

There are a total of eight freshmen competing for the Eagles, including Alexis Rolan who will be competing in the 60, 200 and the long jump. The freshman ranks in the top-10 in all three of the events in the conference. The 200 meters prelims take place on Friday at 5:10 p.m. with finals on Saturday at 12:50 p.m. The long jump takes place at 5 p.m. on Friday.

More comments from women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg . . .
On events: "The events to watch for the EWU women would definitely be the sprints. They have been putting on a show all season and will now have the opportunity to go head to head with all the Big Sky Schools. Our pole vaulters have been our bread and butter at the conference championships meets.  It is time for them to put it together, again, for the team."

On jumps: "We have some depth in the long jump and a returning two-time indoor medalist in the high jump, so that is also an area of strength for Eastern."

More comments from men's head coach Stan Kerr . . .
On individuals: "We are excited to be taking reigning conference champions Keshun McGee, Larry Still, Trenton Osborn and Jeremy VanAssche to Flagstaff for the meet. Their physical and mental talents, along with a solid group of fellow Eagles will make a great showing for EWU."
