Eastern Football Hosts Coaching Clinic April 20-21

Open mainly to high school coaches, clinic includes five coaching sessions and a keynote address by Dick Zornes

With a featured visit from keynote speaker Dick Zornes, the Eastern Washington University Football Coaches Clinic will take place on Friday, April 20 through Saturday, April 21 on the EWU campus in Cheney, Wash.
 
The clinic begins with EWU's spring football practice from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on April 20th at Roos Field, with check-in/registration for the clinic beginning at 4 p.m. at the PE Classroom Building. Zornes will speak at 5 p.m., followed by offensive and defensive breakout sessions from 6-9 p.m. There will be seven sessions during each hour-long time slot, with a total of 21 clinicians involved that evening.
 
On Saturday, two more sessions take place, including a short recruiting philosophy discussion at 8:45 a.m. and a special teams coaching session at 9 a.m. The clinic wraps-up with EWU's practice and scrimmage starting at 11 a.m. at Roos Field.

Zornes was involved for 26 years as a player, coach and administrator at Eastern, including 15 seasons as head coach from 1979-1993. Zornes had an 89-66-2 record with a Big Sky Conference Championship in 1992 and NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (then known as Division I-AA) Playoff berths in 1985 and 1992. His 1985 team beat Idaho in the playoffs before finishing 9-3. In 1992 he was selected as the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year, and in 1985 and 1992 he was the Inland Empire Coach of the Year as selected by the Spokane Sportswriters and Broadcasters.
 
As an administrator, Eastern teams won 30 more games in five seasons with a Big Sky championship and a "Final Four" appearance in the NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs in 1997. In his 26 years of affiliation with Eastern Football, the school was 158-112-3 for a winning percentage of 58.4 percent in that span of 273 games.
