EWU Cross Country Travels to Colfax This Friday

Cougar Classic marks the second the meet for the Eagles after having two top five team finishes at the Clash of the Inland Northwest

The Eastern Washington University men's and women's cross country teams continue their season in Colfax, Wash. for the Cougar Classic this Friday, Sept. 14.
 
"This next meet is about building off of the last," said head coach Sam Read. "We are taking one step forward each meet so we're ready to race come championship season."
 
Hosted by Washington State University, the Cougar Classic will be held at the Colfax Golf Club in Colfax, Wash. The meet begins with the men's 8000-meters at 5:15 p.m. Pacific standard time, with the women's 6000-meters to follow at 6:00 p.m.
 
"In the last meet we did great running together in packs," said Read. "This week we are focusing on having our packs move during the second part of the race."

Eastern is coming off its first meet of the season on Aug. 31 at the Clash of the Inland Northwest, where both the men's and women's team finished with top five team finishes.

Sophomore Lily Tyrrell finished 19th overall on the women's side with a new personal best time of 15:04.4 in the 4,000-meter event. Freshman Carter Ledwith started off his college career by placing 21st with a time of 17:55.0.

"Competition at this meet will be deeper and we're also moving up in distance," added Read. "We're going to need to run smart and work together if we want to be successful."
