Eagles Wrap Up Season in Eugene
Four Eagle seniors conclude their EWU track and field careers at NCAA West Regionals
The Eastern Washington University track and field team concluded its 2011 outdoor season this weekend (May 26-28) at the NCAA Division I West Region Meet in Eugene, Ore.
Seniors Krystal Deyo, Erica Chaney, Kurt Williams and Aaron Mettler competed for the last time in red and white in the preliminary round of the championships.
Deyo finished 40th overall in the 100 meters, finishing the race with a time of 12.05. Chaney stepped into the shot put ring for the final time and had a throw of 50-2, good for 18th in the preliminaries -- just two spots off from advancing to the quarterfinals.
Freshman Michael Okoro placed 32nd overall in the 200 meters, clocking in at 21.76. Junior Brad Wall, the school record-holder in the 400 meters, placed 43rd overall in the event with a time of 48.79.
Okoro and Wall later joined freshman Alex Flores and Williams for the 4x100-meter relay that placed 18th overall with a time of 41.45.
Freshman Jordan Arakawa placed 21st in the hammer throw with a toss of 193-11, and Olivia Midles placed 30th overall in the women's section, marking a throw of 176-11. Rounding out the freshmen competitors was Emma Murillo, who placed 39th in the javelin throw with a mark of 131-3.
