Seniors Luckenbach and Frey close out careers at the NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round
The Eastern Washington University track and field team wrapped up its season at the 2010 NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, Saturday (May 29).
Nicole Luckenbach, a 2005 graduate of Snohomish (Wash.) High School, finished 27th in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 180-3. At the Big Sky Conference Championships in Ogden, Utah (May 14-15), Luckenbach defended her title with a throw of 190-5. She will leave Eastern as the school record-holder in the event, with her personal-best mark of 199-8, set at the Cougar Invitational on April 24. Last year at the West Regionals, Luckenbach finished 14th.
The women’s 4x100-meters relay (Sarah Frey, Brianna Okoro, Shene Davis and Whitney Leavitt) finished 20th with a time of 45.83. That team won the conference championship, set a stadium record (the old record was 45.64 set in 1997 by BYU) and broke Eastern’s school record with a time of 45.43. The previous school record of 45.93 was set in 1994 by Nakia Walker, Christian White, Chundranae Nicholson and Joyce Rainwater.
