Eagles Head to Missoula for Big Sky Showing

Eastern to compete at Montana Invitational Saturday (Oct. 2)

The Eastern Washington University cross country teams will face Big Sky Conference (BSC) opponents this Saturday (Oct. 2), as they compete at the Montana Invitational in Missoula, Mont.

“This will be the first time we see Montana and Montana State this season,” said head coach Chris Zeller. “I’m excited to see how we will stack up against them.”

The women’s 5k race will begin at 10:45 a.m., as the Eagles take on Montana and Montana State who were ranked third and sixth, respectively, in the BSC preseason poll.

“Montana State has a really good women’s team this year -- but I know our girls will compete hard with them,” said Zeller. “I think that Amy (Kolin) will mix things up again this weekend.”

The men’s 8k race will begin at 10 a.m., as the Eagles face Montana (ranked second) and Montana State (ranked fourth).

“For our men, this meet will be a good indicator of where we stand in the conference,” said Zeller. “We only have five guys competing right now, but it’s still early and we’re working hard.”

Kyle King was Eastern’s top finisher last season, finishing the 8,000-meter race with a time of 24:56. In the women's 5,000-meter run, Brittney Williams finished 25th with a time of 19:39.

The Eagle men placed fourth overall and the women’s team placed fifth at the competition last season.
