Four more Eagles attain Big Sky Conference qualifying standards in double-dual meet

The women of the Eastern Washington University track and field team defeated Montana and Montana State Saturday (April 2) in their only scoring competition outside of the conference championships at the Al Manuel Invitational in Missoula, Mont.

The Eagle women beat the Grizzlies (106-88) and edged out the Bobcats (96-95). The Eagle men defeated Montana (107-86) but were outscored by Montana State (104-91).

Sophomore Whitney Leavitt was a double-event winner and ran a leg of the winning 4x100 meter relay team. She placed first in the 100 meters with a time of 12.40 and the 200 with a time of 25.48. The relay, which consisted of Leavitt, Kanisha Calcote, Brianna Okoro and Krystal Deyo won by more than 20 meters, running a time of 47.55.

Senior Erica Chaney won the discus throw with a toss of 150-11. She placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 46-2.

Freshman Olivia Midles had a season-best mark in the hammer throw, marking a distance of 169-2 to place her second in the meet. She is now seventh on EWU's all-time best list. Vania Tauvela placed third in the event with a conference-qualifying mark of 159-2, a lifetime-best for the sophomore.

Haley Tank won the javelin throw with a mark of 132-2, which qualified her for the conference championships.

Junior Stephanie Dye qualified in the 3,000 steeplechase, running a time of 11:39.50 after altitude adjustments. The time was almost a 13 second personal record for Dye.

Taking the week off from the 400 meters, Brad Wall still dominated the track as he won the 100 meters with a time of 11.19. He placed second in the 200 meters (22.38) to teammate Michael Okoro, who won the event with a time of 22.14. Okoro placed second in the 400, running a time of 49.82.

Both Okoro and Wall joined Colin Green and Kramer Green for the 4x400 meter relay, which placed first with a time of 3:21.74.

The men's 4x100 meter relay also placed first in the competition as Alex Flores, Zack Robinson, Kurt Williams and Wall combined to run a time of 42.25.

Williams was a double-event winner in the horizontal jumps, leaping 21-11 1/2 in the long jump and 45-11 1/4 in the triple jump.

Freshman Kramer Green placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.91 – just .41 seconds shy of the qualifying standard.

Freshman Jordan Arakawa bettered his previous mark in the hammer throw, placing second overall with a toss of 184-7, which placed him ninth on EWU's all-time best list. Sophomore Jon Buchanan placed third in the event with a qualifying mark of 166-3.

The Eagles will compete in the WAR IV meet next Saturday (April 9) at Spokane Falls Community College.
