Chaney Inches Toward School Record in Shot Put at Mt. SAC Relays

A handful of Eagles move up on EWU's all-time best list while three athletes hit new BSC qualifying marks

Senior Erica Chaney of the Eastern Washington University track and field team is now within four inches of the outdoor school record in the shot put after her performance at the Mt. SAC Relays, Friday (April 15) in Walnut, Calif.

Chaney's throw of 50-7 1/4 inched her closer to Nancy Kuiper's record of 50-11, which was set in 1991. Chaney capped her weekend with a second 50-plus throw in the shot put at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., this past weekend (April 15-16) when she had a mark of 50-3 3/4.

Chaney broke Kuiper's indoor record of 50-11 earlier this year at the Bronco Open in Nampa, Idaho, when the senior from Spokane, Wash., had a throw  of 51-7 3/4.

Freshman Olivia Midles is also inching her way toward the top of EWU's all-time best list, as the Olympia, Wash., native moved to the fifth-place position when she threw 178 feet on Friday. The mark was a lifetime personal best for Midles.

Both the women's and men's 4x100-meter relays had season-best times. The men's team ran a time of 41.35 to place fourth in the open section of the Mt. SAC Relays, while the women ran a time of 46.89 to place sixth in the Olympic development section.

Junior Brad Wall placed fourth in the Olympic development heat, running a season-best time of 47.58. He also ran a season-best in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 22.09.

Three Eagles grabbed Big Sky Conference qualifying marks during the weekend (April 15-16) at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.

Kurt Williams had a season-best in the long jump, leaping 23-9 3/4 to place him sixth in the competition. The senior had a lifetime-best time in the 100 meters, running a time of 10.97.

Sophomore Taymussa Miller qualified in the long jump with a mark of 18-4 1/2. The Richland, Wash., native is now ninth on EWU's all-time best list.

Senior Stephanie Dye qualified in the 3,000 meters, running a time of 11:37.84.

The Eagles have now attained 30 BSC qualifying marks (15 by the men and 15 by the women). The Eagles will travel to Eugene, Ore., Friday and Saturday (April 22-23) to compete in the Oregon Relays.
