Eagles Hit the Road For First Competition of 2011
Eastern to compete at University of Washington Indoor Preview Saturday Jan. 15
After having nearly a month-long break since its last meet, the Eastern Washington University track and field teams will travel to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the UW Indoor Preview on Saturday (Jan. 15).
The meet will be held at the Dempsey Indoor facility on the campus of the University of Washington. Competition begins at 9 a.m., with the women's pole vault, long jump, 60-meter hurdles and high jump.
The Eagles kicked off their indoor campaign Dec. 3-4 when they hosted the third annual Candy Cane Invitational. Nine Eastern competitors qualified for the 2011 Big Sky Conference Championships, which will be held Feb. 25-26 in Pocatello, Idaho.
Freshman triple jumper Morena Mannucci will compete this weekend in her debut her for the Eastern Eagles. Coming from Rome, Italy, Mannucci's best mark in the triple jump is 40-9 -- a leap that would earn her EWU's school record in the event.
Junior Brad Wall will highlight Eastern men's squad this weekend, as he will compete in his first 400 of the indoor season. The Vancouver, Wash., native won the event at the conference championships last outdoor season in Ogden, Utah, running a school-record time of 46.78.
