Three more athletes on the Eastern Washington University track and field teams will be heading to Pocatello, Idaho for the Big Sky Conference Championships in less than a month after meeting qualifying standards at the University of Washington Indoor Invitational Jan. 28-29 in Seattle, Wash.

"This meet was full of a lot of really great individual marks," said head men's coach Stan Kerr. "As a team, there were a lot of mixed results. I was hoping we would get a few more qualifiers, but I am very pleased with the progress."

The men's distance medley relay made a mark in the record books Friday night as the four underclassmen combined to run a time of 10:06.28 to place them second on EWU's all-time best list. The team consisted of freshman Collin Green, freshman Tim Pettit, sophomore Drake DaPonte and sophomore Simon Sorenson.

"The men's distance medley relay posted a No. 2 all-time mark with all underclassmen. That speaks volumes about them. They are really excited. They are heading in the direction where we want this program to go."

Junior Brad Wall ensured his trip to the conference championships after meeting qualifying standards in his second event of the indoor season. The Vancouver, Wash., native ran a time of 22.19 in the 200 meters.

"Brad Wall continues to run really well," said Kerr. "He had a hard back-to-back race schedule but he got a personal record in that 200."

Aside from contributing to the distance medley relay, Pettit qualified in the 800 meters, running a time of 1:53.95.

Freshman Angelica Rodriguez qualified for the conference championship in the 800 meters. The Hermiston, Ore., native ran a time of 2:15.67 to place her fifth on Eastern's all-time best list.

"Angelica is a really nice addition to the women's team," said women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg. "I think she is someone who can sneak in and score for us at conference."

Rachel Jordan and Robin Taylor both moved up on EWU's all-time best list in the pole vault. They cleared the bar at 11-4 to place them seventh in the record books.

"It was a good meet for the women's team today," said  Mecklenburg. "There were improvements in every event area. That's what we are looking for this time of the year."
