2010-11 – Indoor: Nielsen won the weight throw at the Candy Cane Invitational with a throw of 16.24. He placed fifth at the conference championships with a throw of 17.09. Outdoor: Redshirted.

2009-10 - Indoor: Utilized redshirt season. Outdoor: Nielson had his best throw in the discus at the WSU Cougar Invitational, tossing 164-3 and placing fourth. His best mark in the hammer was at the Beach Invitational with a throw of 147-9.
