Davis and King Show Improvement in Final Meet
Shene Davis and Kyle King both improve 12 spots in respective events
Seniors Shene Davis and Kyle King may not have topped off their Eastern Washington University track and field careers by advancing to nationals, but they definitely did not disappoint. Both Davis (triple jump) and King (5,000), ranked 48th and 46th in their events, respectively, improved greatly at the NCAA Outdoor Preliminaries in Austin, Texas.
Davis jumped a distance of 39-11 1/2 in the triple jump, which placed her 36th overall.
“Shene had a great day,” said women’s head coach Marcia Mecklenburg, “She placed way higher than she was ranked.”
King finished 34th overall in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:54.86.
“Kyle put himself in the leading pack off the
get-go, but once the race heated up he fell behind.” Said
distance coach Chris Zeller. “It was
nice to see him go out there strong and give himself a good
chance.”
“I’m proud of what they have accomplished during their EWU careers,” said Mecklenburg. “We’re going to miss them.”
