2011-12: Indoor: Arakawa threw a personal best of 59-5 3/4 in the weight throw at the Idaho Vandal Indoor to rank eighth all-time at Eastern. He took seventh at the Big Sky BSC Indoor Championships with a throw of 57-7 1/2. He was selected to the winter Big Sky All-Academic team. Outdoor: Redshirted.

2010-11: Indoor: Redshirted. Outdoor: Arakawa made a quick impression as a freshman, with a season-high discus throw of 156-2 at the Duane Hartman Invitational.  In the hammer throw, Arakawa hit a mark of 196-3, which was good for his personal best and the fifth spot all-time at Eastern. He also placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 191-3 at the BSC Outdoor Championships and seventh in the discus (152-10). He advanced to the NCAA DI West Preliminary Round in the hammer and got off a throw of 193-11 to place 21st overall. He was selected to the spring Big Sky All-Academic team and the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. Arakawa competed at the USATF Junior Nationals in the 6K hammer, getting off a throw of 216-6 to place third and earn USATF Junior All-America Honors.

High School: Arakawa was a standout in the discus and hammer throw his senior year, placing third at the State 3A Championships in both events. He placed second in the hammer at the 2010 USATF National Junior Track and Field Championships with a throw of 213-7. His best marks during his time at Capital High School were in the discus (172-9) and hammer (218-3).
