Eagles Finish With No. 13 Ranking in FCS
Despite first-round playoff loss, Eagles remain 13th in the final Sports Network NCAA Football Championship Subdivision poll of the 2009 season
The Eastern Washington University football team began the postseason ranked 13th, and that's the way the Eagles finished as the final NCAA Football Championship Subdivision poll for the 2009 season was announced by the Sports Network on Monday (Dec. 21).
Eastern finished the season 8-4, and also finished the year ranked 13th in the FCS Coaches poll.
Villanova was crowned the No. 1 team in the Sports Network poll after winning the FCS title last Friday (Dec. 18) with a 23-21 victory over Montana in Chattanooga, Tenn. Villanova (14-1) was the No. 2 ranked team in the final regular season poll.
Montana (14-1), which saw its dreams of a perfect season ruined by Villanova, moved up one place to No. 2 in the final poll. Weber State, which also advanced to the playoffs, finished at No. 17, and Montana State received enough votes to rank 27th.
Stephen F. Austin (10-3), which knocked off the Eagles 44-33 in the playoffs on Nov. 28, finished the season ranked 10th after ranking 12th entering the postseason.
