Eagles honored at EWU Football Awards Banquet in the final send-off for 17 Eagle seniors
Senior Brynsen Brown joined quarterback Matt Nichols and linebacker J.C. Sherritt as Eastern Washington University's MVPs from the 2009 football season at the Eagle Football Awards Banquet on Jan. 8.
Brown was selected as the special teams MVP, while Nichols was honored on offense and Sherritt recognized on defense. Brown is a 2005 graduate of Emerald Ridge HS '05 and is from Puyallup, Wash. Besides special teams, he played as a defensive end in 2009 after playing three seasons as a starting wide receiver for the Eagles.
The Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year went to Brandon Murphy and the same award on defense went to Jakob Scott. Murphy is an offensive lineman who graduated from West Albany High School in Albany, Ore., in 2009. Scott is a defensive lineman who graduated in 2009 from Othello (Wash.) High School.
Captains awards were presented to Nichols, wide receiver Aaron Boyce, linebacker Makai Borden and Sherritt.
Also, the Pat Roberts Memorial Award was presented to Tony Davis and Chris Thomas. In addition, the Tom Oswald Memorial Award went to 1970 Eastern graduate and current Central Valley High School (Spokane, Wash.) football coach Rick Giampietri.
Brown, Nichols, Boyce, Borden, Davis and Thomas were among the 17 seniors who were honored at the banquet after combining for 350 starts in their careers.
Senior Class Features 350 Starts Between Them:
Eastern honored its 17 seniors in pre-game ceremonies Oct. 31 at
Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash., where Eastern hosted Portland State.
Those seniors combined for 350 starts in their careers and included
14 players who became four-year letter winners at Eastern. Eastern
won 26 games in their four years, and those players won numerous
All-America, All-Big Sky and academic honors. They were sophomores
in leading Eastern to a playoff berth in 2007 before guiding the
Eagles to a repeat appearance in 2009.
