2010: Listed as a backup at “field” cornerback on EWU’s preseason depth chart.
HS: Graduated from O’Dea HS in 2009. Named by the Seattle Times as a “White Chip” selection as one of the top 100 prospects in the state of Washington. In addition, he was listed as “others to watch” on Ron Siegel’s preseason All-State squad. Earned first team All-Metro League Mountain Division honors as a senior. He helped lead O’Dea to an 8-3 record, including a 21-16 loss to Lakes in the first round of the State 3A Playoffs. Gayton missed all but three games for O’Dea in 2008 because of a nagging hamstring injury. He had three interceptions and broke-up four passes in those three games. As a junior, he earned first team Metro League Mountain Division honors as a defensive back and second team accolades as a wide receiver. He finished his junior season with four interceptions and nine passes broken up, and also returned eight punts for 265 yards (33 yards per return) and three touchdowns. O’Dea was 13-0 in 2007 before losing 42-35 to Skyline in the championship game of the State 3A Playoffs.
Personal: Born 12/5/90 in Seattle, Wash. Business administration major. His father, Carver Gayton, lettered three seasons at Washington, including 1959 when the Huskies were 10-1 and played in the 1960 Rose Bowl.
