2012: Listed as a backup at nose tackle on preseason depth chart.

2011: Started one game late in the year against Portland State (10/29/11) and finished with three tackles. Earlier in the year he had six tackles against Montana (9/17/11) and four versus Sacramento State (10/22/11). In the spring, he was selected as Eastern’s co-most improved defensive player.

2010: Played in 14 games as a backup nose tackle, including Portland State (10/30/10) as a starter. He had a season-high three tackles against Northern Colorado (10/16/10) and two versus Sacramento State (10/23/10), earning him his first career start the following week versus PSU. He didn’t have any tackles versus the Vikings, but he did have a quarterback hurry in the 50-17 win. Katoa recovered a fumble against Idaho State (11/20/10), as EWU ended the regular season with a 34-7 win. He helped the Eagle defense rank first nationally in interceptions (total of 26) and turnovers gained (47), and finish sixth nationally in red zone defense, as it allowed just 38 scores in 58 opponent trips inside the Eagle 20-yard line.

2009: Redshirted. Was selected as the team’s defensive scout team player of the week once.

HS: Graduated from Judge Memorial HS in 2009. Earned second team All-State honors from the Deseret News on both the offensive and defensive line. He helped lead Judge Memorial to a 6-6 record and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the State 3A Playoffs in Utah. He finished the season with 78 total tackles and six sacks.
