Eastern Washington University quarterback Vernon Adams has been selected to the watch list for the College Football Performance Awards Quarterback Award in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. The preliminary watch list includes 32 returning performers competing for the honor presented annually by the CFPA.

Spring Practice for Eagles Begins on April 4
There may be some new faces in a few spots, but the Eastern Washington University football team has plenty of experience to help make the spring seem more like a re-loading than a re-building. The Eagles will begin preparations for the 2013 season when EWU opens spring practices on April 4. The Eagles will spread out their allotted 15 practices over the course of five weeks, instead of cramming them into four like last year.

Eagle Football Top Fundraising School at Plunge
The Eastern Washington University football team won the award as the top fundraising school at Saturday’s (Feb. 23) Polar Plunge at Liberty Lake near Spokane, Wash. A group of about 20 players helped raise approximately $700 for Special Olympics, and were led by linebacker Ronnie Hamlin, offensive guard Steven Forgette and center Ashton Miller.

Chase King Honored as Special Teams Player of the Year at Banquet
Finally healthy after a nagging knee injury, senior Chase King received his just rewards for playing all 14 games for the 2012 Eastern Washington University football team. As a result of his 10 tackles – many on kick coverage units – King was selected as Special Teams Player of the Year Sunday (Feb. 24) at the annual EWU Football Awards Banquet.

SIGNING DAY: Eagles Sign 17 to Letters of Intent
Eastern’s losses were Eastern’s gain. After losing a slew of wide receivers and linebackers from its 2012 football team, Eastern Washington University re-stocked those positions Wednesday (Feb. 6) as head football coach Beau Baldwin announced the signing of 17 high school players to letters of intent to attend EWU and play for the Eagles.

59 Selected to Fall All-Academic Team
A total of 59 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for fall quarter 2012. Of the total, 21 were from football, 18 were from women's soccer, nine from volleyball, six from women's cross country and five from men's cross country.

Pavel and Kaufman Earn More All-America Accolades
Having already won numerous NCAA Football Championship Subdivision All-America honors, kicker Jimmy Pavel and wide receiver Brandon Kaufman have been named to the 2012 College Sports Journal All-America squad. Both players have now been honored on the same six All-America teams after helping lead the Eagles to an 11-3 record, the Big Sky Conference Championship and a semifinal appearance in the FCS Playoffs.

What he accomplished in in a bowl game in 2009, Eastern Washington University transfer quarterback Kyle Padron did again last Saturday (Nov. 17) in Portland, Ore. The junior from Southlake, Texas, has been selected as the Big Sky Conference co-Offensive Player of the Week after coming off the bench to lead the Eagles to a 41-34 win at Portland State on Nov. 17 and clinch a share of the Big Sky championship for EWU.

Hamlin, Tonani Honored With National and Big Sky Awards
Eastern Washington University junior linebacker Ronnie Hamlin was selected Monday (Oct. 15) by the Big Sky Conference as Root Sports Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. He had a team-leading 15 tackles – the second-best performance in his 17-game Eastern career -- and a key interception in sixth-ranked Eastern’s 27-24 victory at Montana State two days earlier.

No. 6 Eastern Finds Extraordinary Ways to Beat Second-Ranked Montana State, 27-24
Eastern had its opportunities – and the Eagles took advantage of them in an extraordinary fashion. Despite being held to 211 yards of offense, sixth-ranked Eastern Washington used two huge plays within 59 seconds of each other in the fourth quarter to turn a four-point deficit into a 10-point advantage en route to a 27-24 college football victory over second-ranked Montana State Saturday (Oct. 13) at Bobcat Stadium in Bozeman, Mont.

Scoring Twice in the Final 2:19, No. 7 Eagles Stun No. 21 Grizzlies, 32-26
The way Montana had gouged Eastern Washington University for the better part of the second half, this one will go down as the mother of all rallies. Scoring two touchdowns in the final 2:19, the No. 7 Eagles rallied for a 32-26 victory over 21st-ranked Montana Grizzlies Saturday (Sept. 29) at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash. The two scores, aided by a successful onside kick, came within two minutes of each other.

Q & A: Football Player Jeff Minnerly
Once a quarterback, always a quarterback. Eastern Washington University senior safety Jeff Minnerly has been a starter in the secondary for the Eagles for the past three years, but he’s still a quarterback at heart. He was an EWU quarterback for two seasons before being converted to defense in spring of 2010.

Q & A: Football Player Zach Johnson
There is now only one Johnson twin on the Eastern Washington University football team, but the Eagles are more than grateful for that. Despite having to recover from a blood clot in his leg that caused him to miss the entire 2009 season, and then missing most of last season due to a recurring knee injury, Zach Johnson has still been able to have a stellar career at Eastern.

The Eastern Washington University offense wasn’t at its finest Thursday (Aug. 30) against Idaho, but the defense certainly was. Transfer quarterback Kyle Padron completed 13-of-33 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown in his EWU debut as the Eagles edged past its former Big Sky Conference rival for a 20-3 win in the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho.

Expanded Pre-Game Show on 700 ESPN Starts Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
The newly-expanded Eastern Washington University football radio pre-game show on 700-AM ESPN will make its debut this Thursday (Aug. 30), and will feature a full 1 1/2 hours of coverage prior to all EWU home games this fall. The initial Eagle Tailgate Show of the 2012 season takes place in conjunction with EWU’s game at Idaho at 6:05 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday.

Quarterbacks Complete 23-of-33 Passes in Scrimmage
It was easy to see that Eastern Washington University’s quarterbacks were the focal point Thursday (Aug. 23) in the final preseason scrimmage before the Eagles open the 2012 season. With more than half of the team’s starters sitting out – particularly those on defense – Eastern’s quarterback trio of Kyle Padron, Vernon Adams and Anthony Vitto combined to complete 23-of-33 passes in the 55-play scrimmage.

Coaches Rank Eastern 15th Heading Into Season
With one final scrimmage looming, the Eastern Washington University football team will enter the 2012 season ranked 15th in the NCAA Football Subdivision in the FCS Coaches Poll announced Wednesday (Aug. 22). Tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 23), Eastern will scrimmage one last time before opening the season. 2012 Football Season Outlook
Despite its injury epidemic in 2011, the Eastern Washington University football team didn’t make excuses. The Eagles just reloaded for 2012. Expecting to be in the hunt for the Big Sky Conference title and yet another playoff berth in the NCAA Championship Subdivision, Eastern is hoping for big things from an experienced team that features eight returning starters on offense and seven on defense, with a total of 48 returning letterwinners.

Eagles to Play Ducks in 2015
Playing the Pac-12 Conference is becoming commonplace for the Eastern Washington University football program, but the Eagles will face an unfamiliar opponent from that powerhouse league in 2015. Marking the fifth-straight year the Eagles will play a member of the Pac-12, Eastern has reached an agreement to face Oregon in Eugene, Ore., on Sept. 5, 2015 at Autzen Stadium. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Eastern Washington University and 700 ESPN and the KXLY Radio Group have reached a two-year extension on their radio agreement to have all home and away EWU football and men’s basketball games broadcast live on 700 ESPN.
