Football Player Ashton Miller and Volleyball Player Ashley Wright Win Scholar-Athlete Award from Big Sky Conference
A pair of business administration graduate students – football player Ashton Miller and volleyball player Ashley Wright – have been selected as Eastern Washington University’s recipients of the Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2013-14 school year. Miller is a 2009 graduate of Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Wash., and Wright graduated the same year from Cascade HS in Leavenworth, Wash.

Former Eastern Washington University All-America wide receiver Brandon Kaufman signed a contract with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League on Tuesday (June 3) and will join the team immediately at its preseason training camp now underway.

Four TD Passes Highlight 47-Play Scrimmage
Eastern Washington University quarterbacks combined for four touchdown passes to highlight the first football scrimmage of spring practice for the Eagles Saturday morning (April 12) at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash. Buchanan Award Candidate Ronnie Hamlin Given Sixth Year by NCAA
Ronnie Hamlin has made up for lost time, and now the Buck Buchanan Award candidate will get one more season to make it count. With 361 career tackles in 40 games (37 as a starter), the Eastern Washington University linebacker will return for the 2014 season after recently being given a sixth year by the NCAA to replace two other seasons wiped out because of injuries.

A total of 54 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for fall quarter 2013. Of the total, 19 were from football, 17 were from women's soccer, nine from volleyball and nine six from women's cross country.

Eagles to Renew Rivalry With Northern Iowa in 2015 and 2016
Matching two of the top teams historically in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Eastern Washington University will renew its football rivalry with Northern Iowa from the Missouri Valley Football Conference when the two teams square off in 2015 and 2016. It wasn’t easy in 13-degree weather, but Walter Payton Award finalist Vernon Adams and running back Quincy Forte found a way. The sixth-ranked Eastern Washington University football knew it wouldn’t be easy Saturday (Oct. 12) playing indoors at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D. Quarterback Vernon Adams overcame a slow start and passed for 307 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help EWU to a 35-14 victory over North Dakota in a Big Sky Conference game. Eastern’s defense also turned two second-half UND turnovers into scores, including a 77-yard interception return by Buck Buchanan Award candidate Ronnie Hamlin.
