Roos Field Sold Out for “College Football Starts Here” Game on ESPN
A capacity crowd at "The Inferno" is expected on Aug. 23 for the first college football game of the season between the Eagles and Sam Houston State
Roos Field will be filled to capacity on Aug. 23 when the "College Football Starts Here" showdown between Eastern Washington University and Sam Houston State is played at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.
Tickets are officially sold out, and "The Inferno" will be filled with 8,600 fans when the game kicks off at 12:35 p.m. Pacific time. Complimentary admissions are still available for EWU students by picking up wrist bands at the EWU Bookstore in Cheney up until game day.
"We are thankful to all our fans for their tremendous response in supporting this game," Eastern athletic director Bill Chaves said. "We look forward to showcasing Eastern, Cheney and Spokane."
Tickets are still available for EWU's game at Roos Field a week later (Aug. 30) versus Montana Western at 6:05 p.m. Pacific time. That will be the last Eagle home game until Oct. 4. Tickets for EWU's remaining four home games -- including Montana on Nov. 8 -- will go on sale starting at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12.
The EWU-SHSU game will be televised live nationally on ESPN, and will feature broadcasters Mark Jones, Rod Gilmore, and Jessica Mendoza, with special appearances expected by former EWU student and current ESPN radio and television talk show host Colin Cowherd.
A special live pre-game show will be broadcast on SWX TV in Eastern Washington, as well as online via ESPN3, starting at 11 a.m. Pacific time. SWX will also air at noon a pre-produced 1/2 hour show similar to the HBO "Hard Knocks" series.
The game will also be aired by 700-AM ESPN beginning 1 1/2 hours prior to kickoff. Larry Weir, Paul Sorensen, Keith Osso and Dennis Patchin return for the 2014 season to provide play-by-play, analysis, sideline reports and interviews pre-game, post-game and at halftime.
In addition, Cowherd will be involved in the EWU Kickoff Celebration on Friday, Aug. 22 at River Park Square in downtown Spokane. Information is available at: http://www.goeags.com/genrel/releases/15genrelAug6RPSKickoffCelebration
