Space is still available for Eastern Washington University fans wishing to celebrate EWU's 2007 football season at this Saturday's (Jan. 12) Football Awards Banquet in Cheney.
New Eagle head coach Beau Baldwin will be on hand for the banquet, which begins at 5 p.m. at the Pence Union Building Multipurpose Room on the EWU campus in Cheney.
Cost is $30 and tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 509-359-2463. The deadline is Thursday (Jan. 10).
The banquet will honor the Eagles for their 9-4 season and advancement to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs. Eastern ended the regular season with four consecutive victories before knocking off second-seeded and No. 3 ranked McNeese State 44-15 in the first round. Eastern closed the year with a 38-35 loss at eventual three-time FCS champion Appalachian State and was ranked eighth in the final Sports Network poll of the season.
Eastern's 2007 highlight video, produced by Kanoa Borden, will be featured at the banquet, as well as additional audio-visual presentations provided by Davin Perry. Eagle Athletic Association President Curly Rousseau will serve as master of ceremonies at the event, which will also include a silent auction.
Team, Big Sky Conference and national honors will be presented to players by returning coaching staff members. Recipients of the Pat Roberts Memorial Award and the Tom Oswald Memorial Award will also be introduced.
Baldwin, a former EWU offensive coordinator before spending one season as head coach at his alma mater Central Washington in 2007, was introduced as EWU's new head coach on Jan. 4. Eastern's former head coach for the last eight seasons, Paul Wulff, was introduced on Dec. 11 as the new head coach at his alma mater Washington State University.
