Eagles Host "Women's Football Huddle" Event

July 19, 2007

The Eastern Washington University football coaching staff will host its first and hopefully annual "Women's Football Huddle" on Aug. 11 at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Wash.

"It's a great opportunity for women in Spokane and throughout the area to educate them about football," said Eagle head coach Paul Wulff. "I know a lot of them want to know more and this is a great venue to get a few pointers and tips. When they do watch football, they will enjoy it and understand it a little more."

The event is open exclusively for women ages 21 and up, and will include fun, educational demonstrations of the basics of football. Participants will take part in interactive teaching events and listen to presentations on the basics of offense, defense, nutrition and the not-to-be-missed "equipment demonstration."

"They'll get an opportunity to meet our coaches and some of our players and hopefully they will come to some Eastern football games," Wulff continued. "Some of these women are going to know things their husbands aren't going to know, so they'll have one up on them. It's going to be a fun event and we're really looking forward to it."

Check-in/registration and a social hour starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Pend Oreille Pavilion at the north entrance (family entrance) of Northern Quest. The clinic begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. and ends between 9:30 and 10 p.m.

Dress is casual and cost is $30 per person. A special mother-daughter special costs $45. The fee includes the clinic, presentations, t-shirt, highlight film, beverages and appetizers, as well as a raffle ticket for several great prizes.

The registration form may be found at the EWU Athletics web site at http://www.goeags.com. Reservations and more information can also be made in advance by calling assistant coach Chris Peterson at 509-359-4639 or 1-800-648-7697.

"I've known other schools that have had this kind of clinic and they've been very well received," said Wulff. "They've turned out to be very successful and have grown every year. The women really like it and the coaches enjoy doing it."

"We used those events as a rough model to organize an event like it at Eastern," he added. "As far as we know, nothing like this has been done in the Northwest."

Northern Quest Casino is located just off Highway 2 at N. 100 Hayford Road in Airway Heights, Wash. Driving directions may be found at the Northern Quest web site at: http://www.northernquest.com/
