46 Selected to Spring All-Academic Team
A total of 46 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the 2011 spring quarter. Of the total, 20 were from the women's outdoor track and field team, 12 from the men's outdoor squad, six from women's tennis, five from men's tennis and three from women's golf.

Mussolini Selected to All-Big Sky First Team
Fernando Mussolini of the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was honored as one of elite players on the All-Big Sky Conference first team, announced Tuesday (April 26) by the league office. This is the first postseason award for the sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil. In the 2011 Big Sky season, Mussolini won five of eight singles matches, including two wins against fellow first-team honorees.

Postseason Hopes Still Alive as Eastern Beats Portland State, 7-0
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team delivered in a must-win match against the Vikings of Portland State on Friday (April 15) afternoon at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles triumphed with a 7-0 sweep of PSU, and thus, remained in the running for a bid to the 2011 Big Sky Conference Championship, held April 21-23 in Bozeman, Mont.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Fall in Flagstaff
The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled together to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the final road trips of their 2011 seasons. Neither squad could find a way past the Lumberjacks on their home court though, as the men fell, 6-1 and the women, 7-0 on Saturday (April 9) at the Flagstaff Athletic Club East.

Eagles Host Gonzaga in Final Non-Conference Duel before April Fools Matchup with Sac State
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team returns home this week for two competitive matches against non-conference foe Gonzaga and Big Sky leader Sacramento State. The Eagles take on GU Tuesday (March 29) at 5 p.m. at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. Eastern will host Sac State on Friday (April 1) at 2 p.m.

Eagles Drop Three Matches at Boise State Spring Break Classic
For the second week in a row, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team had its agenda slightly interrupted by Mother Nature. All matches at the Boise State Spring Break Classic on Friday and Saturday (March 24-25) were moved to the indoor tennis complex on the Boise State campus due to heavy rains in the area, and it was decided doubles would not be played unless to break a tie from singles play.

Less than 48 hours after returning home from a trip to California, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will take off for another series of road matches this weekend in Boise, Idaho. The Eagles will compete in Boise State Spring Break Classic on Friday and Saturday (March 25-26) at various facilities in the area.

Eagles Find a Break in the Rain; Fit in Two Duel Matches in Golden State
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team had an abbreviated trip to the Golden State, as two of its first three scheduled matches were canceled due to heavy rain on the coast. After sitting for two days, the weather finally cooperated and Eastern was able to fit in a pair of matches against the Gauchos of UCSB and the Rams of Fresno City College.

The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis matches against Cal Poly and Fresno City College have been canceled to due inclement weather on the central coast of California. Eastern (7-7, 3-2 Big Sky) was scheduled to play at Cal Poly on Saturday (March 19) and Fresno City College at a neutral location in San Luis Obispo on Sunday (March 20).

The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will hit the road this weekend for three non-conference matches in the Golden State. The Eagles will open their spring break slate against Cal Poly on Saturday (March 19). Eastern will stay in San Luis Obispo to play Fresno City College on Sunday (March 20) before heading south to take on the Gauchos of UCSB on Monday (March 21).

Eagles Split Weekend Matches Against Washington and Seattle
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team played two non-conference matches over the weekend, and came away with one win and one loss. On Friday (March 11), the Eagles faced one of the top 20 teams in the nation in Washington. The Huskies swept EWU in Seattle, 7-0. Eastern was victor in its second dual match on the west side, as it beat Seattle, 5-2 on Sunday (March 13) at the Boeing Tennis Club in Kent, Wash.

Sanchez, Cooper Selected as March Scholar-Athletes
Junior Julian Sanchez of the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team and junior Chene Cooper from the women’s basketball squad were selected as EWU’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for February. Sanchez, an international student from Ciudad Real, Spain, holds a 3.51 cumulative grade point average in business administration/economics. Cooper, a 2008 graduate of Lakes High School in Puyallup, Wash., has a 3.28 GPA in criminal justice.

Finally at Home, Men’s Tennis Prepares for Matches Against Montana Schools
After playing its last six-straight matches on the road, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will finally return to Cheney, Wash., for its next two competitions. The Eagles will face two Big Sky opponents this weekend, starting with Montana State on Saturday (March 5) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. EWU will then battle Montana on Sunday (March 6). Both matches are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Pacific time.

The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team took control of the match early, and went on to defeat Idaho State, 5-2 on Sunday (Feb. 27) in a Big Sky Conference men's tennis match in Pocatello, Idaho. With the win, Eastern evened its overall season record to 5-5 and improved to 2-1 in conference action.

Weber State Comes Through in Clutch to Beat Eastern, 6-1
The box score may read 6-1, but the match itself was much closer. The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team forced five tiebreakers and three three-set matches on Friday (Feb. 25) in Ogden, Utah, but in the end, Weber State proved to have the upper hand, defeating Eastern, 6-1 in a Big Sky Conference men’s tennis match.

The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team had more than two weeks off from competition following its last Big Sky contest. The extra practice time paid off for the Eagles, as the team defeated non-conference foe Gonzaga, 4-3 in its most recent outing on Tuesday (Feb. 22). Eastern will look to carry that momentum on the road, as it returns to conference action this weekend with matches against Weber State and Idaho State.

Eagles Upend Gonzaga, 4-3
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was on the court for more than four hours Tuesday night at the Spokane Racquet Club in Spokane, Wash., but the Eagles prevailed with an exciting 4-3 decision over Gonzaga. The match featured three tiebreakers and two three-setters. With the win, Eastern evened its overall season record to 4-4, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-7 in the 2011 campaign.

For the second weekend in a row, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team came away with one win and one loss after a lengthy Saturday doubleheader. Eastern swept Whitman 7-0, but then dropped a narrow match to No. 73 Idaho, 5-2 at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.

Eagles Excel at Boise State Fall Classic
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team had a superb showing at the Boise State Fall Classic, as the team recorded 12 wins in singles play and six in doubles. The Eagles had eight of its nine members competing at the three-day event, held Oct. 8-10 in Boise, Idaho. Highlighting the weekend was sophomore Fernando Mussolini, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the most competitive bracket after he won three-consecutive singles matches.

It was REDemption for Eastern Washington University’s senior class, but it was one senior and three juniors who made the biggest plays down the stretch. The first football game on Eastern’s new red Sprinturf surface was a huge success as the 18th-ranked Eagles knocked off No. 6 Montana 36-27 Saturday (Sept. 18) in the Big Sky Conference opener for both schools at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.
