2010-11: Had a highly successful rookie season, especially in doubles play, as he and partner Chris Eriksson garnered a 13-2 overall record, including a 7-1 mark in Big Sky Conference action. Russell and Eriksson’s 13 wins tied the fourth-best single-season performance of any doubles team in school history and was the best overall record of all pairs in the league in 2011. The duo finished the season on a seven-match winning streak, punctuated by their first win at No. 2 doubles against Portland State. Russell and Eriksson also celebrated a big victory in Flagstaff, Ariz., as they were the only pair all year to defeat NAU’s Ben Lantz and Patrick Schimmelbauer on the Lumberjack’s notorious home court. The Eagle duo also had noteworthy wins against Air Force, UCSB and Sacramento State. Russell also played nine singles matches during his freshman campaign, earning a 6-3 record. He was undefeated in BSC duals, which included wins over the top two teams in the league in Sac State and Northern Arizona.

High School: Finished fifth in boys singles at the 2009 Washington State Championship, and took second in 2008 at the 4A state championship. Was a five-time Pacific Northwest Zonal/National team member and was a three-time MVP for his high school team (2007-09).

Personal: Son of Richard and Ellen Russell. Plans to major in psychology.
