36 Selected to Spring All-Academic Team
A total of 36 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the 2012 spring quarter. Of the total, 14 were from the women's outdoor track and field team, 13 from the men's outdoor squad, four from men's tennis, three from women's golf and two from women's tennis.

Trio of Men’s Tennis Players Honored by Big Sky
After a successful season that saw the Eastern Washington University men's tennis team finish third in the Big Sky Conference with a winning 6-2 record, three members of the squad were recognized by the league coaches as 2012 All-Big Sky Conference selections. Sophomore Ilija Cuic was considered one of the top eight players in the entire conference, as he was named to the All-Big Sky first team.

Eagles Battle in Big Sky Semis, but Lose Out to No. 2 Sacramento State, 4-0
Although the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was thrilled to be back in the Big Sky Conference tournament for the first time in three years, the Eagles had their sights set on a title. Unfortunately, three-time defending champion Sacramento State stood in their way. The No. 2-seeded Hornets defeated Eastern, 4-0, on Saturday (April 21) at the Gold River Racquet Club in Sacramento, Calif.

Back in the Big Sky Tourney, Eagles Prepare for Semifinal Matchup Against Sac State
Although it has been a couple years, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team is well aware of the challenge that lies ahead in this year’s Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Championship. Making its first appearance in the postseason since 2009, the No. 3 seeded Eagles will take on No. 2 Sacramento State on Saturday (April 21).

Former Eagle to Represent Cambodia in Davis Cup
Pannhara Mam, a former men’s tennis standout at Eastern Washington University, has been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Three years after wrapping up his collegiate career at EWU, Mam was invited to participate in tennis’ most prestigious international team competition. Mam will represent Cambodia in the country’s Davis Cup debut, which officially begins this week in Doha, Qatar.

Eagles Falter in Regular-Season Finale against Montana
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team saw its Big Sky winning streak come to an end on Saturday (April 14) in its regular-season finale. The Eagles, who had won three-consecutive conference duals heading into the match, fell to Montana by a score of 6-1 at the Lindsay Tennis Center in Missoula, Mont.

Eagles Knock Off Montana State, 5-2
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team is now just one win away from at least tying for the 2012 Big Sky regular-season title. The Eagles won their third-straight conference match on Friday (April 13) in Bozeman, Mont., taking down Montana State, 5-2, in a poignant match at the Bobcat Outdoor Courts. Eastern (12-4, 6-1 Big Sky), now tied for second in the conference standings, will play current league-leader Montana (13-4, 6-0) on Saturday (April 14) in Missoula.

Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season with Trip to the Montanas
It is the final week of the 2012 regular season, and both the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams have a lot at stake. The men have already clinched a bid to the Big Sky Conference tournament, held April 21-22 in Sacramento, Calif., but seeding for the event is completely up in the air. The team can still finish anywhere from first to third in the standings, depending entirely on what happens this weekend.

Leavitt and Henninger Garner Scholar-Athlete Honors
Junior Whitney Leavitt of the Eastern Washington University track and field team, and senior Chad Henninger from men’s tennis have been selected as April’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month. This award recognizes the athletic and academic success of student-athletes, based primarily on performances turned in during the month prior.

Eagles Clinch Playoff Spot on Senior Day
Playing outdoors on its home courts, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a postseason-clinching, 5-2 victory over Northern Arizona on Sunday (April 8). The Eagles now sit in second place in the Big Sky Conference.

Behind a thrilling, come-from-behind, three-set victory by Chad Henninger, the Eastern Washington University men's tennis team downed visiting Weber State by a score of 4-2 at the outdoor courts in Cheney. Only singles matches were played due to inclement weather and time limitations.

For the second year in a row, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was on the brink of an inspiring upset against Big Sky perennial power, Sacramento State. But a devastating shift in momentum allowed the Hornets to pull away with a 4-3 victory over EWU on Tuesday (March 27) at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Sacramento, Calif.

Weather Interrupts Eastern’s Spring Break Lineup
Of the two matches it had on tap this weekend, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was only able to complete about half of one. Due to inclement weather in central California, the Eagles had their match against Pacific cut short, while their dual with Fresno Pacific was canceled altogether.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Leave Snow Behind for Trio of Matches in California
Both the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams are headed to California this weekend for three matches in four days. The men open against Pacific on Saturday (March 24) in Stockton, Calif., before taking on Fresno Pacific on Sunday (March 25) and Big Sky foe Sacramento State on Tuesday (March 27). First up for the women’s team will be Sac State, which was the unanimous favorite in this year’s Big Sky preseason coaches’ poll.

Eagles Complete West Side Swing with Exciting 4-3 Win Over Redhawks
It wasn’t the first time this season junior Kyle Koetje had the weight of the match on his shoulders. Just three weeks after clinching a match for EWU against cross-town rival Gonzaga, Koetje found himself in yet another must-win situation - this time against Seattle U. But the Arlington, Wash., native once again came through in the clutch, as the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team prevailed, 4-3, over Seattle on Saturday (March 10) at the Sammamish Club

Tennis Teams Gear Up for Busy Weekend
Both the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams are headed west for an action-packed weekend. The men’s team will take on No. 13 Washington on Friday (March 9) in Seattle, before facing Seattle U on Saturday (March 10). The will play three matches in three days, starting with a Big Sky Conference dual against Portland State on Friday in Portland, Ore.

Eagles Split Pair of Matches Against LCSC and Idaho
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team did not have to travel far to face some of its toughest competition this year. The Eagles played Lewis-Clark State and Idaho over the weekend, both of which are teams that frequently appear in the national polls. LCSC is currently ranked 19th in the NAIA Men’s Tennis Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, while Idaho was ranked among the top 75 in NCAA Division I for six of the first seven weeks of the season.

Cuic Honored by Big Sky Conference
Sophomre Ilija Cuic of the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team has been selected as Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, which marks the third weekly honor of the season for EWU. Sophomore James Russell was recognized on Jan. 24, while senior Chad Henninger took home the award just last week.

Eagles Edge Gonzaga in a Thrilling Midweek Showdown
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was put to the test Wednesday (Feb. 22) against cross-town rival Gonzaga, but the Eagles got the job done for their fourth-straight win against the Zags. With the 4-3 victory at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, EWU extended its season record to 7-3, with the three losses all coming against nationally-ranked opponents.

Henninger Selected as Big Sky Player of the Week
Senior Chad Henninger had a triumphant return to his home state this past weekend, winning back-to-back singles matches against No. 69 Oregon and Big Sky foe Portland State. For his efforts, Henninger was named the Co-Big Sky Player of the Week for the first time in his career, it announced Tuesday (Feb. 21) by the league office. Henninger shared the award with Sacramento State’s Marek Marksoo.

Eagles Take Down Portland State, 7-0, For Third-Straight Conference Win
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team traveled to Oregon this weekend for a non-conference match against Oregon, followed by Big Sky showdown versus Portland State. On Friday (Feb. 17) in Eugene, Ore., Eastern fell to the 69th-ranked Ducks, 6-1. But the team rebounded well, as it blanked Portland State, 7-0, less than 24 hours later.

Eagles Dominate Idaho State, 7-0
The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team did not drop a single set en route to its fifth win in a row and second-straight in Big Sky Conference play. The Eagles rolled past Idaho State, 7-0, on Saturday (Feb. 11) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. "We came out hungry," said EWU head coach Darren Haworth. "They guys played smart and focused."

After a dominant performance in its Big Sky opener, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will try for another one this weekend, as it hosts Idaho State on Saturday at 10 a.m. (Feb. 11) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.

Eagles Down Northern Colorado, 6-1, in Big Sky Conference Opener
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team breezed through its 2012 Big Sky Conference opener, defeating the Bears of Northern Colorado, 6-1, on Saturday (Feb. 4) in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles also picked up a non-conference victory against Seattle in the second half of its Saturday doubleheader.

Times Have Changed for Home Tennis Matches this Weekend
The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams will open their 2012 Big Sky Conference season at home this weekend in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. But due to inclement weather in the Denver area, the men’s match against Northern Colorado will take place a day later than originally scheduled. The men’s non-conference duel against Seattle has also been rescheduled.

Eagles Sweep Weekend Matches against Whitman and Whitworth
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team evened its season record this weekend with a pair of victories against Whitman and Whitworth. Eastern, now 2-2 in the 2012 campaign, topped Whitman, 5-2, on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Cheney, Wash., before blanking Whitworth, 7-0, on Sunday (Jan. 29) in north Spokane.

Tennis Stays Close to Home for Upcoming Matches
After Mother Nature interfered with its original season-opening weekend, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will finally make its 2012 debut this Saturday (Jan. 28) when it plays Seattle at 5:30 p.m. at the Spokane Club in Spokane, Wash.The men’s team will also be close to home, as it hosts Whitman on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Cheney, and then plays at Whitworth on Sunday (Jan. 29) in north Spokane.

Russell Earns Initial Big Sky POW Honors
Sophomore James Russell of the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team was tabbed as the Big Sky Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday (Jan. 24) by the league office. This is the first weekly honor for the 2012 tennis season, and the first time Russell has received the award in his career.

Eagles Drop Two Tough Matches in Boise
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team opened its 2012 campaign this weekend in Boise, Idaho, with two matches against two nationally-ranked opponents. The Eagles fell to No. 62 St. Mary’s, 6-1, on Saturday (Jan. 21), before suffering the same fate against No. 49 Boise State on Sunday (Jan. 22).

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Gear Up for Season Openers
The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams will hit the road this weekend for a pair of season opening matches. The men will head east to play St. Mary’s and Boise State in Boise, Idaho, while the women travel west to take on Portland and Oregon in Eugene. The men’s tennis team will have its hands full in Boise, where it faces two teams ranked in the top 75 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men’s National Rankings.

Men’s Tennis Selected Fourth; Women Fifth in Big Sky Preseason Polls
If predictions are correct, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will be back in the Big Sky tournament this year after a two-year hiatus, while the women are expected to be right on the cusp of earning one of four coveted postseason bids. In the 2012 Big Sky preseason polls released Wednesday (Jan. 11) by the league office, the Eagle men were selected fourth and the women fifth out of nine Big Sky teams.

Men’s Tennis Volunteers at P.e.a.c.h. Community Farm
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team recently spent an afternoon volunteering with the People for Environmental Action and Community Health (p.e.a.c.h.) program in Spokane, Wash. The P.e.a.c.h. Community Farm is an organization that generates opportunities for low-income people to access local, sustainable and affordable food.

The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team only had a few members playing at full strength last weekend at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Seattle, Wash., but those that were healthy had a strong showing at the event.

Once Again, Eagles Shine in Doubles
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team traveled to Boise, Idaho, over the weekend for its second event of the fall season, and just like they did in the season opener in Cheney, the Eagles dominated doubles. In total, EWU won eight doubles matches at the 2011 Boise State Fall Classic.

Eastern’s Doubles Teams Excel in First Outing of Fall Season
After celebrating one of the most successful seasons in Eastern Washington University men’s tennis history, partners Chris Eriksson and James Russell got right back to it this weekend at the EWU Fall Classic in Cheney, Wash. ussell and Eriksson, who compiled a 13-2 overall record last season and 7-1 mark in Big Sky Conference action, won four-consecutive matches between Friday (Sept. 23) and Sunday (Sept 25) to earn a spot in the doubles championship

Men’s Tennis Debuts This Weekend with EWU Fall Classic
The Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will kick-off its 2011 Fall season this weekend with the EWU Fall Classic in Cheney, Wash. The tournament is a three-day event featuring individuals from nine different schools around Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Match play begins at 9 a.m. on Friday (Sept. 23) and will continue on Saturday (Sept. 24) and Sunday (Sept. 25) on the EWU Sports and Recreation Center tennis courts.
