Seven teams, including a pair of Big Sky foes, will join the Eagles for the annual Fall tournament
The Eastern Washington men's tennis team will kick off its Fall season at home, hosting the EWU Classic this Friday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Sept. 29. Along with the Eagles, seven other schools will make the trip to Cheney, including a pair of Big Sky squads.
Gonzaga, Lewis-Clark State, Idaho, Seattle and Portland comprise the non-league members of the field. Montana and Montana State are the two Big Sky schools competing this weekend.
"We're very excited to be hosting this tourament again this year," head coach Darren Haworth said. "I'm looking forward to seeing where are team currently stands, and I'm excited to see our new guys get on the court. This year's draw is one of the largest ones we've had in recent years, and I'm looking forward to the tough competition we'll face this weekend."
With a team comprised largely of underclassmen, the Eagles will have to learn the hard way this year. Only three of the team's nine players are juniors, and there is not a single senior on the roster. Stefan Farrar, Eduardo Martinez and Clint Vidano are the squad's trio of upperclassmen. Martinez was an integral part of last year's squad prior to dislocating his kneecap late in the season. Farrar had a singles record of 9-8 last year in the five and six spots, one of three Eagles to finish the year with a winning mark.
