Spokane, Wash. – The Eastern Washington men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Weber State in a Big Sky match at the Spokane Racquet Club on Friday, Mar. 14.
Eastern falls to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the Big Sky with the loss while Weber State sees its perfect league record improve to 3-0 (8-7 overall).
"I tbought we played well and had our chances," head coach Darren Haworth said. "Give credit to Weber State. They are the more experienced team and that really helped them tonight."
The Eagles won tiebreakers in two doubles matches to steal the doubles point. Robert Dula and Luke Thompson were victorious in the No. 1 position, 8-7 (5), while Wacil Bendjelti and Eduardo Bringold won in the third position, 8-7 (6).
Thompson picked up Eastern's lone singles win, edging out Weber State's Oliver Good in the No. 3 poisition 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Dula extended the first set of his match in the No. 1 spot to a tiebreaker before falling in straight sets while Bendjelti forced a tiebreaker in the second set of his match in the fourth position only to lose 6-4, 7-5.
Eastern is back in action Sunday, Mar. 23, in a nonconference match at Nevada.
