Cheney, Wash. - The Eastern Washington men's tennis team claimed all seven points in its convincing sweep of visiting Southern Utah in a Big Sky match Wednesday, Apr. 9, at the EWU Tennis Courts.
Eastern (8-10, 4-3 Big Sky) easliy won the doubles point before handily taking all six singles matches to strengthen its chances of earning a spot in the Big Sky Championship in two weeks.
"The guys played really well with a lot of momentum coming off of our win over Portland State last weekend," head coach Darren Haworth said. "It's important that we keep our confidence level up as we head into the final stretch before the conference championship."
EWU won all six singles matches in straight sets while three Eagles claimed impressive 6-0, 6-0 victories. Sophomore Eduardo Bringold, freshman Wacil Bendjelti and junior Stefan Farrar each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins in the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Playing in the No. 1 spot, freshman Robert Dula upended Southern Utah's top player 6-4, 6-1.
Eastern plays its final home match this Saturday, Apr. 12, when Northern Arizona visits Cheney. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
