Ogden, Utah – Freshman Robert Dula has been named to the All-Big Sky First Team following a stellar freshman season, as announced by the conference office on Thursday, May 1.
Dula was a fixture at the No. 1 position for Eastern throughout its 2013-14 campaign, finishing with a singles record of 13-9, including a 7-3 mark in Big Sky matches. He also went 8-10 in doubles playing in the No. 1 position each time.
"Robert is a fierce competitor and is incredibly driven," head coach Darren Haworth said. "He had a good season and made some great strides as a freshman. There are still some areas of his game that need developed but there is no question about his work ethic. He makes his teammates better every day and they will continue to push him to new levels."
A native of Rijeka, Croatia, Dula 's college career got off to a strong start, earning Big Sky Male Tennis Player of the Week honors after victories over the top players from Willamette and Portland State on the Eagles' opening weekend.
Dula won seven of his first 11 collegiate matches, taking singles victories over the No. 1 players from Seattle, UMKC, North Dakota and Idaho State.
Dula closed his debut season on am impressive six-match winning streak, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. He had a stellar performance in Eastern's final two matches of the season, beating the No. 1 players from Montana State and Montana.
Dula joins a group of five returning letter winners to give Haworth an experienced core heading into next season.
