Jan Steenekamp is a former No. 1 singles player for Big Sky Conference-member Montana who earned First Team All-Big Sky Conference honors three times. He is a native of Burgersdorp, South Africa, the oldest town of the Eastern Cape province. He started his collegiate playing career at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, where he was honored as a Second Team All-Southland Conference selection in doubles, before transferring to Montana his final three years of action. He is set to earn a bachelor's degree in May 2007 in health and human performance. While at Montana, Steenekamp was named First Team All-Big Sky Conference in each of his three years in Missoula. He went 15-6 at No. 1 singles (21-7 overall) last season, sat out the 2004-05 campaign as a redshirt, went 24-10 his junior year and was 17-5 in spring singles his first year in Missoula. In his time at Crens High School, he lettered in cricket, tennis and track and was selected as tennis team captain his senior year.
