Win over Rivals and School Record Set, All in One Day

April 17, 2007

The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team was able to even the season series with rival Gonzaga on Tuesday afternoon (April 17), as the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs on the road, 5-2. This came exactly after GU topped Eastern in Cheney by an identical 5-2 score.

In today's contest, Pannhara Mam earned his 14th dual-match win of the year to set a school record. He is now 14-7 in the spring (11-7 in the first position, 3-0 at No. 2), 20-8 overall in 2006-07. Now tied for second on the all-time rankings are Brian Hart (1996) and Sean McGoffin (1990), as each tallied 13 victories.

The victory was Eastern's 12th of the season; the Eagles are now 12-9. The number of wins is the most since the 1985 squad went 13-10.

For just the fourth time this year, the Eagles swept all three doubles matches. Eastern then won 4-of-6 singles contests to earn the victory. Other wins were earned by Kyle Schraeder and Nico Riego de Dios and Art Karas, while Keithan Gregg and Patrick Millican each lost close contests.

The Eagles now will head to Boise, Idaho, for their final two regular-season matches of the season. Eastern Washington takes on UC Irvine (10-10) at 1 p.m. PT on Friday (April 20) before taking on No. 23 Boise State (25-5) at 9:30 the next morning.
