Eagles Compete at the McDonald's Open

The Eastern Washington University track and field teams competed this weekend at the McDonald's Open in Moscow, Idaho (Feb. 9). Nicole Luckenbach met automatic qualifying standards for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships, while three Eagles jumped into Eastern's all-time best lists.

On the women's side, Luckenbach qualified for the Championships with a weight throw of 54-00 1/2, more than three feet better than her previous mark of 50-9 1/2. She now ranks third on EWU's all-time best list. Teammates Erika Kirley-Price finished second with a throw of 49-11 3/4, and Aimee Carroll placed third with a throw of 49-11.

Mattie Bridgmon won the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:14.86. That time ranks her fifth on EWU's all-time best list. Teammates Kiri Garruto finished third with a time of 10:44.98, and monica Prunty was fourth with a time of 10:46.36.

Amber Nickelson had a time of 18:46.83 in the 5,000 meters to finish sixth. She ranks third on Eastern's all-time best list.

Erica Chaney placed second in the shot put with a throw of 43-5 1/2. She has already qualified for the BSC Indoor Championships with a throw of 43-9 earlier in the season.

On the men's side, Bowe Ebding was second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:36.39 to rank eighth on Eastern's all-time best list.

In the 3,000 meters, Alex Smyth won with a time of 8:52.62.

Gabe Chavez finished fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 13-11 1/4.

Steve Keith finished fifth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.15 and finished tied for fourth with teammate Joshua Jones in the 200 meters with a time of 22.62.

The Eagles will travel to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the Husky Classic (Feb. 16).
