Senior Breaks His Own Record in Hammer Throw

April 6, 2007

Last week's Big Sky Conference men's field athlete of the week, David Paul, led the Eastern Washington University track and field team once again at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational in Cheney, Wash., April 5-6.

Paul threw a 216-11 in the hammer throw to break his own school record of 214-2 he set last week at the Al Manuel Invitational in Missoula, Mont. The senior won the hammer throw and the discus (167-4) and placed third in the shot put (43-4 1/2). He has already qualified for the BSC Outdoor Championships in all three events.

Also earning a trip to the Big Sky Championships were Levi Knudson (triple jump, 46-2), Armand Hopkins (triple jump, 45-9), Mike Uhlenkott (pole vault, 14-3 1/2), Jordan Oswald (decathlon, 5,740 points), Chad Butorac (400, 48.20) and Steven Bacon (long jump, 22-6 1/2).

The Eagles will split the squad next weekend as some will travel to the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., while others will compete at the Sam Adams Invitational at Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash.
