Tyler Cathey of the Eastern Washington University track and field team, qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships with a javelin throw of 203-9 Friday night at the Oregon Invitational.
Cathey, a sophomore from Richland, Wash., threw his best mark of the season with his throw Friday night. His personal best is 205-8, which ranks him tenth all-time in school history. He was second at the 2006 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships as a freshman.
Curtis Suver, a senior from Maple Valley, Wash., ran a personal best 14:24.63 in the 5,000. His time was good enough to qualify him for the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships and ranks him fourth all-time at Eastern. Suver took third at the 2007 BSC Indoor Championships in the 5,000.
The EWU record holder in the hammer throw, senior David Paul (Yelm, Wash.), finished second in the hammer with a throw of 211-6. Paul already qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships in the hammer, shot put and discus.
The final day of the Oregon Invitational is April 21, beginning with the field events at 2 p.m.
