The Eastern Washington University track and field teams ended the regular season Saturday (May 9) in Moscow, Idaho, at the Vandal Jamboree where the Eagles had their 49th Big Sky Conference qualifying performance.
The Eagles head to the Big Sky Conference Championships on May 13-16 in Missoula, Mont., where more than 30 athletes will compete. The Eagles met league qualifying standards a total of 49 times during the season.
Gabe Chavez was the 49th, qualifying in the pole vault in Moscow with a mark of 15-7 to finish fifth.
David Howard had a personal-best throw of 163-7 in the discus to finish third. He also finished third in the shot put with a mark of 52-8 3/4. Howard had already qualified for the conference championships earlier this season in both the discus and shot put.
On the women’s side, Mari Bingham had a personal-best throw in the shot put with a mark of 42-10 3/4 to finish fourth.
At the Ken Shannon-Ken Forman meet in Seattle, Wash., Alex Smyth had a personal-best 1,500 meters with a time of 3:51.57. He had already qualified for the conference championships earlier this season.
