David Paul (Sr., Yelm, Wash. - Yelm HS '02)
Paul broke his own school record at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 6) in the hammer throw with a throw of 216-11. His previous record was 214-2 set at the Al Manual Invitational (March 31). He owns the second-best hammer throw in Big Sky Conference history, ranking only behind the mark of 219-8 set by Karim Chester of Northern Arizona in 2005. He has qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships (May 25-26, Eugene, Ore.) in the hammer, shot put and discus. Paul also threw 56-10 1/4 in the shot put on March 31 that is the fourth best mark all-time in school history. His throw the same day of 177-11 in the discus was two feet shy of his personal best 179-6, which is second all-time at Eastern.
Paul earned Big Sky Conference Field Athlete of the Meet at the Big Sky Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24 when he threw the 35-pound weight throw 69-8 1/2 -- the third highest mark in conference history. The 2002 graduate of Yelm High School (Wash.), has made huge strides since his freshman season. He finished second as a junior in the weight throw and had a season best of 65-5 1/2. As a sophomore, he had a best of 57-0 1/4 and as a freshman his best was 45-8. In the hammer, he had a school-record toss of 204-5 as a junior last season. His best as a sophomore was 188-1 and as a freshman in 2003 he had a best mark of 147-11.

At the Al Manual Invitational, Gutierrez qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships (Eugene, Ore., May 25-26) in the javelin with a throw of 167-9, a new Big Sky Conference and school record. The throw broke her previous personal best of 156-6 set in 2005, and the old BSC and school record of 165-8 set by Eastern's Stephanie Ulmer last season. She has qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships (Pocatello, Idaho, May 10-12) in the shot put, javelin, discus and hammer throw.
