Junior has a career-high 24 points against Weber State to help lead the 7-0 Eagles to their best conference start in school history
Junior guard Kyla Evans of the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team has been named the Big Sky Player of the Week for games played the week of Jan. 18-24. For the weekend she averaged 17.5 points per game while making .526 from the field, .467 from behind the three-point arc and was perfect from the free throw line.
This is the first-ever BSC award for the 2007 graduate of from Brewster (Wash.) High School. Evans led the Eagles as they extended their winning streak to seven games with wins over Idaho State and Weber State.
The win over the Bengals was a match-up of first and second-place teams with Eastern Washington winning 70-60. Evans tallied 11 points, four rebounds, and four steals. In addition, she shot 4-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range.
In the 77-65 win over Weber State, Evans led the Eagles with a career-high 24 points. She also collected six rebounds, four assists, and went 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Eastern Washington is off to its best conference start in school history. The Eagles now stand at 7-0 in conference play with a two-game advantage in the loss column over Portland State. The two teams will meet on Saturday in another match-up of first and second-place teams.
